IN the early Eighties, I saw one of the best pop concerts ever - the Boomtown Rats at York University.

Bob Geldof was superb, he had a rant between songs about this and that but being a young teenager at the time I had no idea what he was going on about.

Fast forward 20 years and he is still ranting on.

Am I the only person on this planet who is sick to the back teeth of opening a newspaper or switching on the telly and seeing and hearing him pontificate about Africa this or poverty that?

He is certainly a martyr to this cause but what about poverty in this country?

Why did he encourage people to go to Scotland and protest to the G8 leaders when they didn't have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near them?

All he did was invite every tree hugger, anarchist and rent-a-thug to cause mayhem and destruction on Scottish people and their towns.

These people didn't need an excuse, let alone a personal invitation from Sir Bob to take anarchy onto the streets, peaceful protesting this was not!

Imagine if this had been Liverpool footie fans rioting in Istanbul last month.

We wouldn't have heard the last of it, big fines, European bans etc would have followed and recriminations for years.

As it is Sir Bob... nothing.

Maybe somebody should hold him responsible for inciting a riot, breach of the peace, criminal damage.

That might make his halo slip!
