Day-long stroll in the Park

Thirteen was far from an unlucky number thanks to literally the day/night endeavours of members of Rudding Park.

Some 13 golfers from the Harrogate-based golf and hotel complex raised more than £2,500 from a 24-hour-long tournament.

The event, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, was swung into action by Patrick Mower, a current star of ITV's Emmerdale soap saga of Yorkshire folk.

Over the designated 24 hours, the plucky golfers played five rounds of golf, which were completed in weather conditions that ranged wildly from a mini-heatwave during the day to a tropical storm through the wee small hours.

In completing the 24-hour marathon the golfers walked more than 30 miles.

Junior boost

Pike Hills GC are building further on their success in Junior Golf by introducing the Golf Foundation Junior Golf Passport - a nationally certified programme which provides a framework for the development of a youngster's golf from beginner through to low handicapper.

A number of places remain on the clubs golf4girlz programme which operates on Sunday mornings.

Ideal match

Husband and wife pairing Hazel and Gordon Cushing (Scarthingwell) romped home in the Yorkshire Herald Foursomes final at Heworth.

They recorded a superb score of 65.5 to win by five shots from home club duo Jean Mackay and James Shanks.

Forest Park's Linda and David Foxcroft edged out Jackie Roberts and Richard Horsley (Malton and Norton) for third place on countback after both carded 71.

Sue's the one

ALLERTHORPE Park GC's Phosyn Trophy was won by Sue Greaves-Moore with 45 stableford points, one ahead of Sally Wilkinson and Denise Jenkins.
