MICHAEL Lumb has been dropped from Yorkshire's squad for their final North Division Twenty20 Cup game against title-holders Leicestershire at Grace Road tonight.
The stylish left-hander has yet to find any real form this season and he has particularly struggled in Twenty20 cricket, making only 60 runs in the first seven matches.
This meagre amount is in sharp contrast to two years' ago when, in the competition's inaugural season, Lumb scooped £1,500 in prize-money for striking 13 sixes, the most by any player in the country.
Lumb's place in the squad of 12 goes to Matthew Wood who has been omitted for the last three matches and is looking for an improvement in his own form before Yorkshire return to Championship cricket with the visit to Worcestershire at New Road on Friday.
Yorkshire have already won in the Championship and lost in the totesport League at Grace Road this season and victory this evening could see them through to the quarter-final draw although it is a bit of a long shot because of their inferior run rate to several other sides.
"It is almost impossible to hazard a guess as to what will happen but all we can do is go out there and try our hardest to win by a big margin," said director of cricket, David Byas.
The only two Yorkshire batsmen really to take a shine to Twenty20 cricket this season are the Aussie pair of Ian Harvey and Phil Jaques who between them have scored well over half of all their side's runs.
The more consistent Jaques leads the way with 271 but the mercurial Harvey has 239 and could finish ahead of his fellow countryman if he really turns it on tonight.
Yorkshire from: White, Harvey, Jaques, McGrath, Sayers, Pyrah, Wood, Bresnan, Dawson, Dawood, Warren, Lawson.
