Jamie Ashworth, the Fulford Golf Club assistant, reached the final qualifying rounds for the Open Championship when he came through the regional qualifier at Alwoodley with a one over par 72.
Ashworth thought his chances had disappeared when he went out in a five over 41, but he recovered magnificently by playing the inward half in a four under 31.
He now heads for London Links, St Andrews on Saturday and Sunday for the 36 holes which will decide who goes into the Open which begins at St Andrews a week on Thursday.
Former Fulford player James Mason (Rotherham) and Ganton professional Gary Brown also qualified at Alwoodley with 72s.
