PAULINE M Melbourne compares animals travelling with train passengers (Letters, June 30).
There are strict rules on how many animals can be in each lorry and in each compartment and how long they can be in there. If these rules are broken, the penalties are severe.
Lorries can be stopped and inspected anywhere and a vet sees the animals when they are unloaded.
As far as I know, there are no rules about how many people can be crammed on a train or any penalties if people suffer.
