IT appears to me that Coun Macdonald finds it quite acceptable to blame the fall in recovered rates on computer problems ("£6m council tax not paid", June 29).
What he fails to recognise is that computers are only as good as the people who program and operate them.
The slowdown in council tax collection appears to coincide with the installation of a new computer system to administer its collection.
Coun Macdonald states "the problem we've had is with the computers which has slowed down the chasing up process". Correct me if I am wrong, but computers should speed up the process not slow it down.
If Coun Macdonald wants to blame anyone, he should blame the individuals who procured and installed the new computer system. Let's get to the root of the problem and not blame something that can't answer back.
