YORK Civic Trust congratulates all those responsible for ensuring Royal Ascot at York was such a success.
So many organisations and people worked tirelessly to make the event run smoothly.
Congratulations to William Derby, chief executive and clerk of the course, and to all his staff, from those with the vision to plan the occasion to the army of litter-pickers who kept the venue spotless.
Congratulations to the police and to the traffic management team for finding a formula to deal with so many vehicles.
Congratulations to our council for pulling out all stops to make Ascot at York such a memorable occasion.
It was impressive to see several prominent councillors actually out there at traffic hotspots during the event.
What a glorious week.
Much was expected of York and the city rose to the occasion.
Darrell Buttery,
Chairman, York Civic Trust,
