I HAVE just received my copy of the city council newsletter for the rural west York ward.
I read with interest the news that the villages in the ward, namely Copmanthorpe, Askham Bryan, Rufforth, Poppleton, Hessay and Knapton, are to receive a special recycling bin and that garden waste will now be collected on a fortnightly basis.
And it was good to hear that this laudable scheme is being put on to a permanent basis.
The bad news, however, carefully hidden inside the July issue, is that the normal household waste collection will move from a weekly collection to a fortnightly collection.
I appreciate there will be an argument which says that while we are recycling our household waste will reduce, but this will not happen overnight.
Meanwhile, our overflowing bins will attract vermin and create a serious health hazard.
