I WAS sorry to hear that ill-health had caused Peter Wilmott to end his post as York School press secretary.
I would endorse Sports Editor Martin Jarred's comment about Peter making such a huge contribution to local schools sport over so many years.
I first got to know Peter when he refereed a schools' football final in which I played in 1947 on the old Holgate playing field, not long after he had finished his teacher training at St John's College. For many years after that he also helped with the organisation of the City Boys Under 15 team.
Since then he has given an immense contribution, initially as a referee as well, to local sport and particularly to the York Schools as press secretary. All lovers of sport owe you an enormous debt, Peter.
