I OFTEN think of two sporting sons of York both actively engaged in the mid-1950s and wonder if they were still around. Could anyone help?
Both were well known boxers. Peter Tomes, trained by his ex-professional boxing father George was a cracking Northern Area British Railways Champion. The other was professional journeyman boxer Con 'Kid' Bailey. It was not his real name. I believe Con was a member of a family called Harrison.
Both gave their all, never failing to give superb entertainment. I wish more of their like were performing these days.
