NORTH Yorkshire has had a record number of selections for the rugby league service area Yorkshire Regional Camps this summer.
No fewer than 11 players from the York area and three from Scarborough will go to the camps, which are for under-13s to U15s and will be held at Ampleforth College in July and August.
There were five players each from North Yorkshire's U13s and U14s squads and four from the U15s. The U13s are Josh Peacock, Ben Johnston, Marc McNeill, Stuart Leeke and Josh Cuningham Evans; the U14s are Tom Stancliffe, Jack Johnson, Kane Seavers, Luke Watling and Kayle Stannard; and the U15s are Pat Smith, David Leeke, Chris Peace and Adam Jones.
The U15s camp will be held in the last week of July followed by the U14s and U13s in the first and second week of August respectively. From these, players are selected for a national camp and then the Great Britain squads at their respective age groups.
North Yorkshire development officer and Service Area co-ordinator Ian Wilson said: "It's the most selections North Yorkshire has ever had and shows that the hard work put in by players and coaching staff over the past few weeks has paid off.
"It's great to see so many of our players in the squad and they all deserve their selection. It goes to show how much talent we have in the area, not just in York but surrounding areas too."
He added: "With all the good development work that is going on in North Yorkshire through the York City Knights community programmes, it's not surprising the talent in the area is being identified."
Wilson also predicted an even brighter future for the North Yorkshire Area when all the youngsters who have been involved in the Knights' development schemes over the past few years become old enough to display their talents on a regional stage.
