Dringhouses Football Club won't quite be the same.

Chairman Colin Mole and treasurer Frank Prole have gone out on a high after 53 years with the club, which has completed its most successful season.

The pair have amassed 53 years and 33 trophies between them during their time as players, managers and officials of the Leeper Hare York and District League side.

Mole, who had spells at Middlesbrough, Bridlington Trinity and Filey Town joined Dringhouses in 1977 and was described by his colleague Prole as a "bustling centre forward", although he could also turn his hand to the centre half position.

Mole said: "I've enjoyed every minute. It was a tough decision for me to stand down."

Liverpool-born Prole played for Accrington Stanley as a schoolboy and was coached by Les Cocker, who went on to train Don Revie's famous Leeds United squad.

Prole also played for the RAF Command team and turned out on a few occasions for the then Northern Premier League outfit Scarborough. Family commitments however, brought him to York where he first joined Osbaldwick in 1978 at the age of 35. Goalscorer Prole then moved on to Dringhouses in 1980 and once scored eight goals in a reserve game, seven of which were with his head.

He said: "I'm quite relaxed about leaving; I'm only leaving my position as treasurer and will still be there every Saturday to support the team.

"It'll be nice to go into the bar after a game and instead of selling raffle tickets, I can enjoy a few pints."

Dringhouses certainly saw them off in style.

The first team retained the Leeper Hare Premier League Championship. They also won the York FA Senior Cup as well as being beaten finalists in the League Cup. The reserve team won all the trophies available to them - the clean sweep - including the retention of the Reserve 'A' Championship for the seventh year running.

They also collected the York FA Junior Cup and the Reserve League Cup to cap the club's best season in their 97-year history.

Individual award winners were: Shan Laverack (first team players' player of the season), Mick Lock (reserve team players' player), Steve Harrison (first team manager's player), Wayne Carter (reserve team manager's player), Lee Bond (supporters' player of the year), Mark Woodward (leading goalscorer), Mick Backhouse (clubman of the year), Colin Mole, Frank Prole and Paul Cooper (long service awards).
