ONE Wednesday I had to take my diabetic cat, Freddy, to the RSPCA for the vet to monitor his condition. I was lucky enough to get a lift there, but wanting to return by taxi was quite another matter.

The first telephone request was approximately ten minutes to three. I was told it would be 20 to 30 minutes before they could send one.

The second request, by RSPCA staff, did not give confirmation, and no taxi arrived.

By this time I began to feel quite stressed and my angina played up!

The RSPCA staff were supportive, realising the seriousness of the situation. I believe at this point the RSPCA staff must have informed the taxi firm of my health.

I had chosen to sit outside and a glass of water was brought to me. Waiting became intolerable. The only unconcerned one was Freddy! The staff were wonderful.

A taxi arrived via Strensall - and I was informed that taxi drivers do not like transporting animals. I arrived at home at 4.30pm.

I telephoned the taxi firm to verify their rules and was told that if drivers do not want to transport animals they can do nothing.

I had used this taxi firm for years, it being local. Will taxi firms who will carry animals please make themselves known?
