YORK-BASED golfer Simon Dyson has qualified for The Open at St Andrews next month after finishing joint fourth in the final qualifier.
Two rounds of 67, one on the Sunningdale Old and the other on the Sunningdale New course, gave him an impressive total of 134 to ensure qualification for the July 14 to 17 major.
The six-under score was matched by six others, including former US Masters champion Ian Woosnam, with Simon Khan and Peter Lawrie leading the way on eight-under 132.
A total of 14 places were up for grabs in the qualifying with 13 finishing clear, and five players due to go head-to-head in a sudden death play-off for the final place today.
