AFTER the recent correspondence about the use of part of Clarence Gardens as a temporary car park for the competitors in the York Open Bowls Championships, July 25-30, I can now confirm City of York Council will not be instigating this scheme this summer.
The works to create the entrance are more complex than originally thought and will require planning permission. It is not possible to obtain such permission in the time remaining before the tournament.
Once this year's tournament has been completed a review of the parking arrangements will be undertaken to see if the idea should be resurrected.
Meanwhile, readers are welcome to write to me or email me at dave.meigh@york.gov.uk with any concerns or ideas they may have.
