FOR more than 30 years I have known and watched the Camphill Trust work their miracles at Botton village.
I have seen the hard work done by many volunteers, and houseparents and visited them on their open days once a year. The villagers are proud of their work and pleased to see everyone. The programme on Channel 4, The Strangest Village In Britain, did not do them justice. They didn't tell of the farms and animals, the candle-making and dolly-making rooms and woodwork rooms where great items are made and sold in their shops.
If you visit Botton this year on Sunday, July 3, from 1 - 6pm, you will have a wonderful day going around the work rooms, being shown how to make your own candle to take home and the hayrides are very popular and fun for all ages. Those who like gardens will want to visit another day, there is so much to see. If you want a quiet time a walk to the church (built by the Botton families) is very special.
All the homemade produce grown and made at Botton is just like granny made and the homemade ice cream is to die for.
I hope I have made up for the television programme and you will remember: all families have quarrels but not every day. See you at the open day ice cream stall.
