Part of York racecourse will be railed off during the John Smith's meeting to preserve the ground following huge criticism of the going during Royal Ascot week.
The most worn part of the track will be protected during the July 8-9 meet to avoid similar problems at the high-brow Ebor meeting to those experienced at Royal Ascot at York.
Clerk of the course William Derby told the Racing Post he was keen to address the problems that led to High Point falling on the home turn in the Ascot Stakes on the first day of racing, and attracted complaints throughout the week from jockeys and trainers.
But he defended the way he and his staff managed the track before and during the meeting and said he acted in line with advice from jockeys' safety officer Dale Gibson.
