GREEN-FINGERED TV star Alan Titchmarsh admitted he was blooming proud that York was hosting the world famous Royal meeting.
Taking time out to speak to the Evening Press after lunch, in the Royal Enclosure, the Ground Force star also praised the quality of the turf at the York racetrack.
He said: "I think it's tremendous that Ascot is here. I feel very proud that it is."
And Alan said York had come up smelling of roses, despite pre-festival criticism that the event would not be as good as Berkshire.
He added: "York has really held its own. All the comments I've heard from top to bottom, are that it's a great venue."
The gardening expert said he was "very pleased" with the state of the Knavesmire turf - though he joked that he was less confident about his selections on it!
