AS a York resident I want to say how well the Royal Ascot at York race meeting was handled.
Before the event the city's nimbys were preaching traffic chaos and a virtual disaster for York to stage such a large race meeting. I even heard it said "I hope it rains all week". Well, they almost got that right, although my wife and I went on Wednesday in the rain and still enjoyed ourselves.
It was a very good effort by City of York Council and their employees, the Ascot race people, the police, emergency services, First bus company who ran a normal service plus extra ones to the racecourse, helicopter control and, finally, the Evening Press for the excellent race card you published.
