EVER wondered what a Viking stand-up comic would be like? Well, now's your chance to find out.
For JORVIK, York's famous Viking centre, has organised two new wacky events as part of the city's Comedy Festival 2004, which runs from tomorrow until Saturday, June 12.
To mark its 20th year, JORVIK is inviting six comedians to each squeeze 1,000 years of Viking tradition and archaeology into a hilarious ten-minute individual performance, for the first "JORVIK Lite" evening.
The comedians vie for a cash prize of £500 for the best performance and the JORVIK Lite 2004 title.
JORVIK Lite takes place on Tuesday at the Friargate Theatre, York, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 (£5 for concessions) and are available from the theatre on 0845 961300 or the festival on 08700 600100.
Meanwhile, Dr Andrew "Bone" Jones, of the York Archaeological Trust, will be tackling the less sanitary side of Viking history, with an entertaining lecture on Viking Poo
Visitors will be able to discover everything they ever wanted to know about the subject, as well as having the chance to inspect Dr Jones's 1,000-year- old samples.
The Viking Poo lecture takes place at The Archaeological Resource Centre (ARC) in St Saviour's Church on Thursday at 7pm. Tickets cost £3.50 and are available by phoning 01904 543403.
