John Smith's brewery have extended their sponsorship of the John Smith's Cup raceday at York for another three years until 2007, it was announced today. The new agreement comes into effect for this year's fixture on Saturday, July 9.
The prize money has been boosted to a record £150,000, maintaining its position as the third most valuable handicap and the richest race of its kind in the country.
First run in 1960 as the Magnet Cup, it is the oldest commercially sponsored Flat race in Britain.
