A NEW Roman trail has been devised in York to help visitors and residents discover more about historic York on foot.
The latest leaflet published by the First Stop York tourism partnership is entitled On The Trail Of York's Lost Legions, and sets out the route for a self-guided tour.
The trail has been devised after extensive research by Roman tour guide Keith Mulhearn and archaeologist Dr Patrick Ottaway.
"York has more Roman things to see than almost any other UK city, but nobody knows they are there," said Keith, who runs Roam'in Tours.
"York's Roman heritage is hidden away in places like the Undercroft of York Minster."
Dr Ottoway said York was one of the greatest Roman cities in Britain.
"We should be proud of this fabulous heritage.
"We hope this trail will stimulate the imagination and inspire visitors to follow in the footsteps of York's lost legions."
The new leaflet was launched just before the city's annual Roman festival, which runs from today until.
For more information on the festival and a copy of the new trail leaflet, visit the York Tourist Information Centre or phone 01904 621756.
