A MAN has died after he was pulled from the River Ouse in York, police said today.
Officers said it appeared the victim, in his 40s and from the York area, had already been dragged from the water at Water End, Clifton before emergency crews reached the scene.
The alarm was raised at about 4.15pm yesterday, as temperatures soared in the city.
Police and paramedics were scrambled to the incident and the man was taken to York Hospital with serious injuries.
Sergeant John Landers, of North Yorkshire Police, said the victim was confirmed dead soon afterwards.
He said the man's name would not be released until his family had been informed.
An inquest was expected to be opened and adjourned later today.
