SIMON Dyson's US Open dream perished in nine crucial holes at Pinehurst.
The North Yorkshire golf ace, making his American debut, fired a second round 78 - eight-over-par - to total 17-over for the two rounds and miss the half-way cut by nine shots.
The Malton and Norton GC player was in exalted company. No less than three Major champions - Todd Hamilton, David Duval and Ben Curtis - all missed the mid-way cut.
Dyson started his second round at the tenth hole this time around and again, as on the opening day in North Carolina, he birdied the 607-yard par-five hole. But his troubles started straight after that success. Over the next nine holes he dropped seven shots, including a double-bogey six on the 18th.
