BUSINESS owners reacted with anger to a council warning to motorists to avoid the A64 today.
Traffic bosses urged anyone wishing to travel to the east coast to find an alternative route to avoid traffic making its way to and from the racecourse on the final day of Royal Ascot at York.
But traders on the A64 - already disappointed by poor sales throughout the week - said the move was "another body blow".
Sonya Burton, of the Jinnah Restaurant, in Malton Road, said: "It's been bad enough during race week itself. We were expecting the situation to be a little bit better today, but it looks like there's no chance of that."
