SILVER anniversary celebrations were decorated by a golden haul at Fulford Golf Club.
Its 25th annual St Leonard's Hospice tournament realised £13,750 smashing the previous best record of £11,461 when the club celebrated its centenary in 2000. That means that since the event first started in 1981 the club has reaised £154,000 for the Hospice - its biggest single contributor.
The record-shattering day delighted Bobby Elliott, the secretary of Fulford GC's Hospice tournament committee. And he was further thrilled that the main men's and women's prizes were won by Fulford members.
Mike Blades topped the stableford scoring with 42 points to gain the Peter Langron Trophy and a special silver salver to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the tournament. Liz Jones, also of the host club, won the women's event with 37 points.
Enthused Elliott: "It's been a wonderful effort. Everybody pulled together to make it a truly exceptional year and we are all chuffed.
"It was good to see Mike Blades and Liz Jones win as we've not had a Fulford winner for a bit."
There was further 'home' success. Fulford groundsman Mark Mennell was second in division one, a member of the second-placed team and also won the nearest the pin prize at the tenth hole.
