TEN years ago I bought a flat in St Giles Gate, knowing full well that having the privilege of living in the city centre we would be subject to a certain amount of noise.
However, in my view and in the view of many others, a loud band is over the top. I was not aware that noise-reducing shutters had been installed at the Certificate 18 pub.
St John's College occasionally hosts a band and nearby residents have complained.
So, notices were placed around the campus asking students to have some consideration for the local residents.
I cannot understand how Mr Gallagher (Letters, May 24) can remark on this issue because, going by his address, he does not live in this area.
Also, ambulances very rarely use their sirens late at night because the road is usually clear for them.
I remind Mr Gallagher that he no longer lives in Scotland but in York and what they do in Scotland, or anywhere else for that matter, has nothing to do with us and is no concern of mine.
Mrs J Scott,
St Giles Gate,
Gillygate, York.
