I HAVE been interested by the letters etc about BBC Radio York. I would say that whatever power the listeners of York may have and the clout of this newspaper, use them to the full to protect your station.
Sometime ago, a new management took over at BBC Radio Cleveland and sacked, with immediate effect, one of the best presenters around.
Then others were reshuffled into programmes they are not best suited to and managers also brought in many new "young things". What we have at Cleveland now is a commercial-type station without advertising and funded by the licence payer.
Many listeners protested at the time, but the BBC didn't want to know. Now many listeners don't listen and most of the former contributors to phone-in's don't ring in any more.
Do what you need to to protect what you have or go the way of Cleveland.
