FORGIVING your headline ('Germany Calling', May 30), it is more important that Fulford and York at large knows what is coming.
For years residents have been denied any pedestrian or road improvements to their benefit while the A19 has been deemed too busy, and too dangerous.
For years, we have been expressing concern about the unrealistic, impractical proposals for one road to allow developers access to their land-locked site at Germany Beck.
Petitions, well-attended public meetings, lobbying councillors and demonstrations have all been tried.
It was ironic to hear at Guildhall a consultant for the developer opine that the new junction would improve matters for Fordlands Road, blind to the additional traffic.
A curious factor has been that the road plan has been kept apart from the housing planning application, and the detail has only recently come to light. That denied a real chance to comment on the one issue locals considered they could realistically have their voice heard, and do have more experience on, than consultants and planners.
Staff at Persimmon's HQ, only yards further down the A19, cannot be blind to the state of this road.
If Persimmon would offer up other land within their domain to at least enable a second access to half of the development that could be seen as an improvement. As it stands, back to your wartime chant, Germany Beck will be one super-sized ghetto!
