LONDON is superior to York in any number of ways. Its traffic jams are longer than ours, its streets are filthier, violent crime occurs more often, it is that much smellier, and its residents (unsurprisingly) are grumpier than anyone else.
But not those who work for Highlander plc. Because they are ex-Londoners. This IT company is relocating to York.
Our city's growing status as a science leader and its position at the centre of a reinvigorated Northern England are two good reasons for the move. The clincher was this: York is a great place to live.
A quick plea to the Highlander bosses. Don't tell everyone in London, or they'll all want to come.
