I SHOULD like to thank the Evening Press for hosting a meeting recently with residents affected by the Fulford fire.
My colleague and I spent an hour and a half offering support to the residents and trying to help them to understand what happened. However, I wouldn't want readers to get the impression recent regulations that stopped us testing some fire hydrants had put the community at risk. In fact fire hydrants are used to give additional water but would never be regarded as a life-saving element of our procedures.
No lives have been put at risk by the temporary hiatus in hydrant inspections, which have since restarted.
