TWO people jumped out of a first-floor window after a house caught fire in York.
A man and a woman, both aged about 40, made the dramatic escape from a house in Kingsland Terrace, off Leeman Road, at about 1am.
A neighbour called the fire brigade after the blaze started in the dining room.
The pair jumped out of a window on to a flat roof at the back of the house, where firefighters rescued them.
An ambulance spokeswoman said one of the pair was thought to have been taken to York Hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
Two crews from Acomb and York spent an hour-and-a-half tackling the blaze, which left much of the house badly damaged.
A fire spokeswoman said the smoke detector in the house had activated, but had not been correctly fitted.
