PLUSH properties have proved hard to market for Royal Ascot, a specialist letting company confirmed today.
York-based Ascot Lets today said posh stately homes and luxury hotels had not been clear winners in the race to rent homes for the big event.
Instead, racegoers hunting for a temporary home have opted for more reasonably priced accommodation.
Steve Free, sales director with Ascot Lets, said the average rent was about £100 per person per night - a far cry from the asking price for Sutton Park.
Prices in excess of £200 have been "rare", he added.
Residents renting out their homes during Royal Ascot have been warned to check it meets gas safety regulations.
By law, every homeowner renting out their house must show tenants a Landlords' Gas Safety Record, which shows that all gas appliances have been checked for safety.
