I AGREE with those correspondents who feel a health hazard will be created should household waste be only collected bi-weekly.
Like most sensible individuals, I fully support all efforts to recycle as much waste as possible. However, I do not support a potential increase in health risk just to save money.
Bearing in mind the inflation-busting council tax hikes the people of York have endured over the past few years it shouldn't be beyond the capability of City of York Council to continue a weekly collection of household rubbish and introduce a bi-weekly collection of recyclable rubbish as an additional collection.
This would no doubt require additional staffing within the refuse collection department but, given the choice between spending my council tax on creating employment and wasting it on Steve Galloway's dream of turning York into a festival city to rival Edinburgh, I know what I prefer.
