ALL over York we have problems with on- street parking. Cars mount the verges to park damaging the grass, paving stones and causing obstruction to pedestrians.
What does York council do about it? Nothing.
Then a council tenant uses a bit of initiative to alleviate the problem in her area ('Why can't I park on my garden?", May 24) and the council are up in arms, threatening her with court action and quoting a large sum of money to have the kerb dropped to gain entrance.
If she has to pay do we presume the private householders in Grantham Drive, Wetherby Road and Hollybank all contributed to the improvements made to their driveway access? If not, and the work was done free, will they come and do mine please?
A P Cox,
Heath Close,
Holgate, York.
