JOHN Greenway 1, Tony Blair 0. The Ryedale MP scored a victory over the Prime Minister yesterday by pointing out the dismal failure of Mr Blair's eve-of-election speech at Scarborough.
The Labour MP for Scarborough and Whitby for eight years, Lawrie Quinn, was ousted the next day.
As Mr Greenway told the Commons, Mr Blair arrived to make that speech by helicopter. If he had tried to go by car along the congested A64 we might still be waiting to hear it.
The Prime Minister's dismissive response in the Commons only underlines his Government's failure to act on this crucial issue.
