BILLY Jenkins is an insanely good guitarist who follows the path less trodden by other musicians.
He arrived at jazz via spiked comedy music, then moved on to south London blues, giving his surroundings a love-hate embrace. He is passionate and prickly, hilarious and sometimes stubbornly apart - yet always keeps going, refining his music with each release (this is number 13).
Here, Jenkins, a favourite at The Shed, turns acoustic and cuts everything back until he is almost playing solo, addressing pizza delivery, eBay - on the punning titled Sitting On The Dock Of eBay - and the joys of rain.
His dizzyingly accomplished playing can be hard and bluesy, or soft and lyrical, with violinist Dylan Bates and double bassist Steve Watts offering sparse but perfect support.
