I SAW the recent notice in the Evening Press about the imposition of a 20mph speed limit along the section of Terry Avenue and Butcher Terrace to be opened to taxis as part of the Royal Ascot traffic management plan.
I am concerned that the city council is proposing that these regulations are to apply on race days from June 14 to October 31.
When the use of this pedestrian street was first suggested as a congestion-beating measure it was implied this would be for the five days of the Ascot meeting only. It would now seem the council is anticipating using Terry Avenue for taxis every time there is a race meeting. This avenue is a very popular pedestrian route and is also used by cyclists and skateboarders on the way to Rowntree Park.
I strongly oppose it being opened up to traffic for perhaps 15 to 20 days in the summer and hope the city council will give assurances this is not their intention.
