I WRITE in response to Mrs Kildip James' letter about the Race For Life (May 19).
Cancer Research UK have been delighted and overwhelmed by the support of women in York for Race For Life.
This event reached its capacity of 5,500 entrants more than two months before the race date.
The popularity of the event has left some women disappointed not getting a place but, because of strict health and safety regulations we are unable to exceed this number.
City of York Council has always been supportive of the event. This is the eighth year the race has come to York and we could not do it without their fantastic help.
Cancer Research UK will review this year's race and work with the council when we consider whether a second race in 2006 is viable.
Unfortunately, this will not be in place for 2005 but, instead, we encourage any other disappointed women to help in other ways.
As Mrs James suggests, you can donate to Cancer Research UK online at www.raceforlife.org. You can also offer your support by volunteering on race day.
If you would like to be part of this terrific event and could help out on either race day, we want to hear from you.
Volunteers should contact the Race For Life hotline on 08702 40 11 12.
We thank the women of York for their enthusiasm for Race For Life and wish them all the best with their fundraising.
