A minute's silence was observed by the 3,000 plus strong crowd before kick off in memory of avid Knights fan Gary Martin, from Swinton, who was killed in a motor accident two weeks ago.
His six-year-old son Jordan was one of the 13 mascots.
Gary, 42, was a stable lad at Peter Niven's yard at Barton-le-Street.
Knights chairman Roger Dixon paid tribute to gary in his programme notes.
"Gary and his family epitomised everything positive about true support for a shared interest and passion. I hope so much that the extended Knights family will be a source of comfort for Jacqui (his widow). Jordan and Abbie (his two-year-old daugher)."
