Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy spelled out his party's plans to scrap the Council Tax today, claiming the move would save a typical family £450 a year.
Mr Kennedy said the Lib Dems would introduce a local income tax instead, administered by the Inland Revenue.
His pledge came as the Tories made clear they would scrap the forthcoming council tax revaluation of homes in England, claiming it will save seven million households from soaring bills.
