The plans are now finalised for the transporting of racegoers to Knavesmire for the Royal Ascot meeting next month.

On behalf of York Taxi Association I would like to thank Peter Evely and City of York Council for their invaluable help and for involving the trade in regular meetings and the planning of routes to and from the racecourse.

Peter and the council have taken decisions which I am sure will not please everybody but wherever possible they have been considerate and accommodating.

The opening of Terry Avenue for taxi and private-hire vehicles only will be a valuable asset in getting people quickly and safely to the course and, because it will only be for five days out of the entire year, this will cause only minimum disruption.

The possibility of further large events coming to York would seem to be dependant on making this work. We have the blueprint in place it is now up to everyone to be patient and give it our best shot.
