This morning, as I cycled along Scarcroft Lane, there was a tree branch in the roadway, and some broken glass causing a hazard to cyclists, pedestrians and animals.
I stopped and telephoned the York Pride team on 551551 to report this, leaving a message on the answering system.
The recorded message told me that this line was checked every 30 minutes.
"Yeah, right!" I thought, fully expecting to be ringing again later to speak to a human being.
Two hours later, I cycled back along the lane, and found not a tree branch, not a patch of glass, but an immaculate safe lane.
Working around the city streets as I do, I have reported a number of such cases in the past, and this high standard of service seems to be the norm for the York Pride and Street Scene teams. They are an asset to the city. Well done!
