WILD guerrilla musicians are set to invade the streets of York tomorrow as part of a weekend of action-packed live entertainment to mark York Live 2005.

The musicians, who are all local, will pop up all over the city, in parks, and in the suburbs, to unleash their musical talents on unsuspecting passers-by.

York has already been spoilt for choice when it comes to music this weekend. Young local groups battled it out last night at the Grand Opera House in the Best Of Bands competition. Today, shoppers were treated to performances from the University of York Jazz Orchestra and a broad selection of rock bands on an outdoor stage in Parliament Street. Elsewhere, a selection of heavenly choirs enthralled crowds in Coppergate.

The weekend will be rounded off tomorrow night with the Strung Out 2005 grand final at the Orgasmic Caf in St Martin's Courtyard, Coney Street.

Punters at the Black Swan pub, Peasholme Green, were being treated to a marathon of non-stop music this weekend as part of the York Live 2005 music extravaganza.

A wealth of local talent was due to turn up to entertain drinkers in a marquee erected behind the pub, complete with concert stage.

Yesterday revellers were treated to a night of the blues, sponsored by local magazine Aesthetica. Today was the third City of York Folk Day, featuring acts in the marquee, a folk club upstairs and instrumental sessions in the Oak Room bar. Tomorrow the Black Swan will be dedicated to jazz.
