THIS summer the Special Olympics Great Britain stages its seventh National Summer Games in Glasgow from July 1-9, with the Torch Run stopping in York on Sunday, June 5.

The Torch Run, which will convey the 'Flame of Hope', the Special Olympics torch, will be taken through 26 cities across the UK from London to Glasgow.

The flame will be carried by representatives from the 43 Police Forces across Great Britain to the opening ceremony of the games on Saturday, July 2.

In every city along the route there will be celebratory events, including a race, and in York alongside the Torch Run the third annual European Rugby League Federation York 9s tournament will be taking place with 24 teams competing.

The York race will take place on Monk Stray in Heworth at noon with the gates opening at 10am. To register contact Karen Wallin on karensogb@aol.com or tel 02078 247800.
