YORK Under-11s footballers pulled off a league and cup double as they defeated Sheffield in the Green 'Un Cup.
After last week's disappointing defeat against Hull in the Yorkshire Cup Final, York bounced back to defeat their South Yorkshire rivals 2-1.
Jacob McCormick's pass put Alex Needham through and he rounded the goalkeeper to give York the lead. Sheffield levelled with their first shot on goal but York, who dominated after the interval, grabbed the winner when Needham swept in his second goal.
George Wilson, the York 'keeper, then kept his side in it as the opposition desperately tried to find an equaliser.
The U11s will now compete in the North of England finals of the English Schools' seven-a-side tournament at the Academy of Light in Sunderland on Saturday.
They have been drawn to play East Cleveland, Huyton, Chester-le-Street and Newcastle. York U11s from: George Catling, Conor Qualter, Jacob McCormick, Sam Bryam, Alex Needham, Charlie Clamp, Jamie Wilstrop and Jacob Gore. Players meet at the Millfield pub and restaurant at Poppleton Business Park at 9am. Other squad members are welcome to join the rest of the team.
Meanwhile, the presentation night for York Schools' Football Association will be on Saturday, June 4, at Huntington Sports and Social Club. Players are asked to arrive at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
Entry will be £1 per-person and includes a disco.
Players must contact their respective team managers as soon as possible with their nomination for player of the year.
FOUR Pocklington School netballers have been called up to the East Riding U13 squad.
Katie Atkinson, Rachel Kendall, Rebecca Sedcole and Jessica Blake have all won places in the team that will fight the East Riding corner at the Humber Youth Games on June 26.
All four will attend a series of training sessions to get them in shape for the challenge of Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.
