HOME was where the art was for York Cricket Club as they completed a double delight with a league triumph and a conquest of Fenners in the Yorkshire Champions Trophy.
York's tenure at the top of the Yorkshire ECB Premier League was indebted to the batting of Dan Broadbent and the bowling of Nick Thornicroft.
The duo proved the pivotal performers in Saturday's 119-run triumph over visiting Driffield with Broadbent making the initial impact.
York chose to bat first, but lost two wickets quickly. Broadbent staved off any hint of a collapse by holding the innings together with a top-score 63. His efforts were supplemented by a late order flourish in which Duncan Snell hammered a five-boundary 30 in just 34 balls, while Rob Flack chipped in with a worthy 30 for a 223-9 total.
Driffield had no real answer in their reply as Thornicroft's pace steadily shredded the opposition. He and Flack enjoyed early success and just as Andy Inns and Andy Towse built a promising stand, leg-spinner Mark Bell bagged two wickets in one over.
Flack returned to fire, but it was Thornicroft who seared the rest of the reply with a hostile spell of five wickets for four runs in just six blistering overs. That yielded York the maximum eight points, ensuring they stayed in pole position.
East Yorkshire Alliance champions Fenners arrived without too much fanfare and so it proved in what was an unequal battle as the Clifton Parkers won by 110 runs.
York were given a sound start of 91 in 18 overs from Broadbent and Michael Sheedy, the latter going on to post an entertaining century laden with 12 boundaries, including a six.
A 278 total was a formidable task but Fenners' opener Stan Hewitt started brightly spanking seven boundaries mostly off paceman Thornicroft before he finally fell.
Off-spinner Broadbent then worked his magic to claim five wickets and seal a win with 15 overs in hand.
