THE report 'York gets tough on takeaways" by Lucy Stephens (May 10) was very interesting.
As a resident of Danebury Drive I was recently notified by York council of a submission for planning permission to convert vacant premises into a pizza takeaway-delivery business.
This would be close to an existing Indian restaurant-takeaway and a public house.
I lodged my objection to this with the council for the reasons disclosed in your report and signed a local petition. Other reasons for my objection were that, because Danebury Drive is already a very busy road with a bus service running for approximately 18 hours a day, to potentially increase the volume of traffic was inconsiderate to the neighbourhood and a potential safety hazard.
Only last week I received confirmation from the council that planning permission had, in fact, been granted. To read your article confirming the council recognises the issues that I addressed as a problem astounds me. I can only assume members of the planning committee are not residents of Danebury Drive. If they were it may have been viewed in a different light.
How many takeaway outlets does Acomb need?
