OLD STAGER Quito is on course for a Royal Ascot double after scoring a memorable York Races triumph for Stillington trainer David Chapman.
The eight-year-old gave a storming run under Tony Culhane on Knavesmire to win the Listed Bank Of Scotland Corporate Hambleton Stakes to head home a North Yorkshire one-two-three.
Top weight Quito, a 15-2 shot, really dug in for a half-length victory over Blue Spinnaker (16-1) who hails from Mick Easterby's Sheriff Hutton stable, with Malton trainer Richard Fahey completing the frame with Kings Point (16-1).
Quito, who had only run at Haydock just five days earlier, is a glutton for work and is set to return to York next month when he may run twice at the prestigious royal fixture.
Chapman said: "If he gets his soft ground at Royal Ascot he'll go for a six-furlong race on the Tuesday and the mile on the Saturday.
"I think he'll run in both if the ground is right."
Blue Spinnaker, who ran a blinder for second place under Paul Mulrennan, may get an outing in the Royal Hunt Cup at the Ascot meeting.
