wo Clifton Cycling Club members laid down top-ten finishes in the opening Tadcaster Cycle Racing League time trial to set a good foundation for the rest of the 16-race campaign.
Chris Gaskell finished fifth in 24 minutes 39 seconds for the ten-mile curtain-raiser around Tadcaster and Sherburn.
Hot on his wheels was club-mate Gary Kitching in sixth with 25-01, while veteran Arnie Pearson recorded 27-52 to finish 13th and Claire Gilmartin came in at 29-52.
Nick Griffiths, of the Bob Jackson Road Team, won in 23-11, while local riders Matthew Lunn, of Wheldrake, clocked the third best time of 24-16 and veteran Bob Tate, of Appleton Roebuck, was eighth overall in 26-56.
Distances over ten, 12, 15 and 25 miles will be covered in the series on courses around Tadcaster and York. Points are awarded to every rider depen-ding on their position, with categories including fastest men, women, schoolboy, veteran, fastest on handicap and fastest second claim rider.
